DIE SÜNDIGEN ENGEL
(THE TURN OF THE SCREW)
Opera
Design in model for the opera by Benjamin Britten, 2021
Stage & Costume Design, Conception: Ariane Koziolek & Pia Pospischil
Director, Conception: Judith Lebitz
A governess moves into a house on the country estate
of Bly to look after the orphans Flora and Miles. At the
same time she should not bother the actual guardian
and uncle of the children with concerns. In the garden,
the young woman observes eerie figures, and the housekeeper
Mrs. Grose puzzles over whether they are the ghosts of
two deceased employees who are reaching out their hands
to the children. It becomes increasingly unclear to us viewers
what and who we are seeing on stage and which perspective
we can trust. Objectivity begins to dissolve and together
with the governess we get to a place where our safe rules
of perception reach a limit.
